North Pole Temperatures Rise Drastically for Second Consecutive Year
1 min readOn November 17th, The Washington Post reported that the North Pole is 36 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal. This might not seem like a huge deal, but it is polar night there right now. This means there isn’t much sunlight getting to the arctic, and now is the time when it (usually) gets to extremely cold temperatures, and the sea ice freezes and thickens. This is the second year in a row the arctic has been abnormally warm during polar night. Although we have made improvements on being more Eco-friendly, we need to step up our efforts as this is a clear indication we are not doing enough.
We only have one earth, and we need to take better care of it. We as a nation need to drastically increase the focus and amount in which we are investing into clean and renewable energy sources. As of today the world uses an estimated 116 million barrels of oil each day. The earth only has 50-60 years worth of oil left at that rate. Also with global population rising that number is likely to increase. It is going to take time to convert from using coal, oil, and natural gas, but we have to at least start to put in more effort before it is too late.
